Microsclerotherapy is considered the gold standard treatment for leg thread veins and spider veins. It is a simple, minimally invasive and effective method of thread vein removal.
What are Thread Veins?
Thread veins or spider veins are fine, dilated veins lying just beneath the surface of the skin. They are not dangerous but can be unsightly. In some people thread veins are caused by varicose veins but in other people they arise without any underlying venous problem.
Treating these can give you back the confidence to wear skirts and summer clothing again.
Treatment and Aftercare
Microsclerotherapy causes minimal discomfort. Each treatment takes 30-45 minutes. A very fine needle is inserted into the thread veins, the substance injected causes the lining of the veins to swell and stick together so that no blood can flow through them, the swelling will destroy the vein over several weeks, making it much less noticeable or even invisible.
There is minimal downtime following this treatment, you will be encouraged to take a walk straight away and can drive home from the appointment. Compression stockings must be worn for a short time to ensure the veins remain closed and subsequently disappear.
Things to Remember
It is important to know that treatment of thread veins takes some time to achieve maximum results. You can expect around 75% or more of your veins to vanish, but you should be aware that 100% disappearance of all veins is rare. There will be some bruising to the legs following the procedure and so they will look worse before you notice the improvements.
It is not realistic to decide to get your treatment done just before you are going off on holiday. More than one treatment may be required depending on the site and quantity of veins requiring treatment. Treatments are usually done a month apart but different legs can be treated a week apart.
Please note microsclerotherapy is only successful if there are no underlying venous problems and it is therefore essential to undergo an assessment at the clinic first to ensure the best outcome for you.
